In 2003, 2009, and 2017 (ongoing) Dennis Frenchman was mandated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to design Korea’s digital media sector flagship. A digital media street is the centerpiece of the project: 1km experimental public realm that arcs across the entire site. The spine features public venues for urban life where physical and digital experiences are mixed.

Today, the site is often cited as a successful case study for digital cities, and has been the set of numerous futurist movie productions, namely Hollywood triumph “The Avengers”. An evolving masterplan with new technologies and urban design concepts being implement over the course of 10+ years. From diversity to interchangeable, permeable to augmented, programmable to self-organizing, interactive to auto-active… initial concepts were adapted to ever-changing urban tools and notions. Today, this project is Asia’s largest media city housing over 50,000 people with close to 20,000 media companies based there.
