Meydan Medina is a series of social public spaces activated by a theme brought forward from the history of the city. Through innovative place-making, the goal is to create a cultural network throughout the KEC site, a cultural masterplan would be required to identify various routes visitors can take between the Prophet’s Mosque and the Haramain Station. Driven by the spirituality of the place, some of the meydans are meant to be monuments for pilgrims to leave a gift or message (Aroma, Memory) others are a celebration of activity with the subtle use of technology (day and night) to create responsive spaces to the mood and environment. Last, are a series of meydans (earth and water) that pay respect to the natural formation of the place which lead it to be what it is today. Meydan Medina is a project that will spark interest in the site through the metaphor of planting seeds. Over time, similar to Rome and its piazzas, an urban fabric will construct over time around these meydans building a city which will be the KEC. This matrix of meydans will be the initial
